Following standards for each area of study, students explore and practice skills to gain fluency in order to tackle problems in mathematics, language arts, social studies, science, and world languages. Whenever possible, core content areas are interwoven with special area classes to enhance and extend learning opportunities; students apply their knowledge to answer real-world questions.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How can I communicate with my child’s teacher?
Our school uses Class Dojo, an app that connects parents and the school by providing digital daily reports, pictures and messages. In addition, parents may phone or e-mail us at any time. Parents may also request a parent/teacher meeting. We have an open-door policy, so parents may drop in at any time, but please stop by the office so that we can make sure the visit is not disruptive to the child or the classroom.
How can I be involved at school?
We gladly welcome parents to join us as volunteers through the Homeroom Parents Program. Additionally, parents may volunteer at various school events, and assist with Read a Book to me program as well as other opportunities throughout the school. All parents who volunteer in the school must pass a level 2 DCF fingerprint clearance.

When and how are children’s skills evaluated?
Assessments of a student’s skills are conducted on a daily basis so we can best support his/her learning. In addition, formal assessments are conducted three times during the year. These assessments not only help parents and teachers to understand where their child began the school year in his skillset and/or development, but also what areas can be strengthened. These assessments guide us, as educators, in developing our curriculum so that it matches the needs of the children in the class. At the end of the year we are able to see how the child has advanced throughout the year.
What is the school’s withdraw policy?
You must give a minimum one month’s notice if you intend to withdraw your child from school, and partial months of attendance must be paid in full.
Is the school secure?
We take the safety of our campus very seriously. Our school is assessed for safety by the local police department in addition to having all our teachers and staff have all attended active shooter trainings. In addition, there are multiple security check points:
- Secured front entry door.
- Only authorized admittance. Unauthorized persons must wait to be assisted by a staff member.
- Immediate photo identification on office staff computers as parents and children enter to verify identity.
- Instant electronic record of your child’s arrival and departure.
- Computerized record of all individuals authorized to pick up your child.
- Security cameras throughout to ensure safety.

Love this school!
My children gained confidence, mastered core subjects beyond their respective grade levels, developed their public speaking skills, enjoyed learning, and received exposure to the arts and many other wonderful activities that they would not have received somewhere else. The faculty and staff are professional and caring. I love this school.

Instilling Confidence and Excellence
My son and daughter attend Excelsior Arts Preparatory School. This school demonstrates faith in students’ abilities. They focus on students’ overall development, including spiritual. The teachers and administration care about the students. Most or all, the students have confidence and work above their respective grades. When I observe my children’s classmates, it is obvious that they are happy in their learning environment.
Parent of two students
They stick to Christian values
Great, because it is one of the very few Christian schools in the area that sticks to Christian values that holds high academic standards for your child while making sure he/she is a long learner.

Great School
My daughter went in at 5 not being able to read fluently and by the 6th month she was reading fluently. I have seen such a turnaround because of the dedication of her teacher. Thanks to all the wonderful staff as well.
